Heather Jones

Certified Birth Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor

I'm an Oklahoma native: born and raised, a veteran of the US Navy, and a former military spouse. I currently live in S OKC/Moore with my 6 children and 2 cats. I enjoy staying fit and active with my children, writing, crochet, bellydancing, and adventures with friends.

I came to serve birthing families in a casual way. After I gave birth to my firstborn child in 2002, women I served in the military with invited me to their births to support them. From the very first birth I attended, a fire sparked within me, and over the next couple of years I discovered there was a name for this calling. In 2006, I enrolled in a doula certification program, and the rest, as they say, is history. The education and experience I have gained as a doula, studying birth and midwifery, briefly teaching childbirth classes, and through each one of my own pregnancies and births (as well as two early losses) have all refined, strengthened, and evolved this passion with more talents to serve you with.

I trust birth and the woman who owns it. - Carla Hartley, director of AAMI

What does that mean? I follow your intuition, instinct, inspired spiritual decision, and informed parental choice. It does not mean blindly ignoring medical or emotional needs to subscribe to a limiting belief or ideal. I honor childbirth as a transformative process which can lead people to discover new things about themselves, their partners, and their collective family values. I recognize the baby's experience of birth and innate intelligences and the influence of you all to each other. All of my resources, knowledge, and practical skills serve to holistically support your new family emerging through this child's entrance.

I hold this birthing time sacred through privacy and patience. Of all times in life, the late pregnancy, labor, birthing, and postpartum days present a unique opportunity to slow down, purposefully meeting our babies at their pace. I challenge you to breathe in this time and experience it all, no matter the twists and turns, and invite into your support circle only those who will provide your family with the tender loving care you deserve.

"Perhaps we share stories in much the same spirit that explorers share maps, hoping to speed each others journey, but knowing the journey we make will be our own." —Gloria Steinem on motherhood.
